About the Society

The Bray Society provides a forum for talks and discussions of a wide-ranging cultural and topical nature. Although the Society is closely linked with Bray, membership is not restricted to residents of the village. The Society was founded in the summer of 1983 and is run by a small committee whose aim is to maintain high standards and broaden the range of subjects covered. Speakers engaged are mostly professionals or experts who are specialists in their own field.

Over the years the Society's programme has covered a diversity of subjects. These have included some excellent talks on:

Antiques     Art and Artists     Chelsea Hospital     Criminology     Dorney Court     English Country Furniture     Genealogy     Glyndebourne     Graphology     Heraldry     Historic Events     Kew Gardens     Literature and Authors     Lloyds of London     Local History     Medieval Houses     Meteorology     Music and Composers     Poetry     Porcelain     Propagation     River Thames     Silver     The Garter Knights     The Q.E.2     The Windsor Castle Fire     Travel

and there has been a visit to the Local Magistrates' Court.

We are a friendly group of people who extend a warm welcome to new members, so why not come along as a visitor to one of our meetings?

Meeting details

Talks are held at 8.00 p.m. on the first Tuesday in the month, from October until April, at Bray Village Hall. Each lasts about an hour, plus time for questions, and coffee/tea and biscuits are served afterwards. Please see the Programme page for details of forthcoming talks. Note that the hall has ramps and toilets that are suitable for wheelchair users.

The A.G.M. is held in May and is traditionally followed by a buffet supper. Non-members who may be interested in joining the Society are always welcome to attend. For further details, please see the Programme page.
